As with any hobby there will be common problems that newcomers face that everyone else has already struggled with and solved, hopefully this repository serves as a bit of a collective brain dump you you only make the same mistake once:
Computer monitor going squiffy when transmitting:
This is usually caused by RF feeding into the monitor, some clip on ferrites on the video cable in often helps, along with a common mode choke at the start of the antenna feeder to prevent the feeder radiating.
Random clicks and keys being pressed on the computer when transmitting:
Similar to no.1 this is caused by RF in the USB cables for the keyboard and mouse, again solved with ferrites but the best solution we've found is to use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, the Bluetooth doesn't add much QRM to the shack if it's one of the newer lower powered ones.
Everyone seems quieter than you'd expect:
I hit this one when I first started contesting after a hiatus from operating, I had forgotten about polarisation, I was using a vertical dipole and everyone else was using horizontal yagis, this usually causes about a 20 - 30dB loss.
Can't install logging software on computer:
Check the software is actually available on your desired platform (I spent ages looking for Minos for the Raspbian)
Check the software installer is the correct one for your platform (Turns out you can't install Linux software on a Windows computer)
